National Chung Cheng University Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics Implementation Policy for Master’s Degree Conferral

Amended and approved on March 08,2011 by 5th Academic Affairs Meeting (Academic Year 2010) of Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics
  1. This policy is established by the Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics in accordance with National Chung Cheng University Graduate Degree Conferral Regulations for Master’s Degree Conferral purpose.
  2. Student should observe the following regulation when applying for degree conferral written and oral examination.
  1. Application for oral examination should be made in advance such that there is at a 30- days gap between the application date and the actual oral defence date. 
  2. Students should complete the application for oral defence by themselves on the Office of Academic Affairs’s website.
  3. Students are to send the following documents to the Institute’s Office for verification and record purposes:
(i) Application form for written and oral examination
(ii) Consent form for written and oral examination
(iii) Past academic transcripts
 
  1. In addition to having extensive knowledge and  research experience specifically related to the subject matter of the thesis, each member of the Examination Committee must also fulfil one of the following criteria:
(i). had served as a professor or associate professor
(ii). be a current or academician or research fellow of Academia Sinica
(iii). for academician that holds a doctoral degree and a distinguished academic record in research area related to the subject matter of the thesis or academician who is currently holding the position of assistant professor, their appointment as a member of the Examination Committee needs to be recommended by the adviser (recommendation needs to be accompanied by supporting documents illustrating their qualification and academic achievements) , and approved by the Director of Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics.
(iv) For thesis pertaining to rare or extraordinary research area, person who had obtained distinguished professional or academic achievements can be appointed as a member of the Examination Committee. However, their appointment needs to be recommended by the adviser (recommendation needs to be accompanied by (1) advisor’s  explanation statement as to why the said person Is suitable for the position (2) supporting documents illustrating their professional or academic achievements),  and approved by the Director of Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics.
  1. The Examination Committee shall consist of three to five members, and one of them must be an external examiner outside of the University Faculty. Jointly appointed instructors of National Chung University are not eligible for appointment as external examiners.
  2. The Examination Committee list needs to be signed by Adviser, Director of Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics, and Dean of College of Engineering. An official appointment letter will be issued to each member of the Examination Committee after the Examination Committee list has been approved.
  3. Students need to fulfil the following to be awarded with the Master’s Degree:
(i). Submit and orally defend the Master thesis in front of the thesis committee.
(ii). Pass the written examination (the passing mark is 70%)
  1. Any matters not mentioned in this policy are to be resolve in compliance with theNational Chung University Graduate Degree Conferral Regulations.
  2. This Policy shall be promulgated and enforced upon approval of the Academic Meeting of Graduate Institute of Opto-Mechatronics. The same shall apply when this Policy is amended.
